The television has been a prize possession and form of entertainment for the American family since it was introduced decades ago. The question is–what is the right amount of viewing time for your family? It’s suggested that children under 2 do not watch and above 2 should watch no more than 2 hours a day, a fair amount for any member of the family, even adults. The television should not be on during meal times; that should be a time for your family to have conversation and time to truly focus on each other. Choose programs that you can enjoy together as a family, a time when you can discuss the program and be entertained. Then, find alternatives to get you and your family up and moving. Remember that too much seat time is poor for your health. Get up and move, play board games, play outdoor games, do a project together, go on a day trip, whatever it takes to keep your family on the move. You can also find ways to make television viewing creative by having your children write their own creative stories based on a program or they can draw illustrations based on the shows watched.

In the tech savvy society that we live in, it is easy for children to become couch potatoes. TV programs, video games, and computers all give children things to do inside rather than out. Gone are the days of playing outside till dark and inventing things to do. Today’s society needs to be challenged and most kids know more technologically than their parents by age 10. Not only are there social ramifications but family time is at an all-time low. Many families have traded traditional dinner time at the table, to eating in front of their favorite show.

If we allow children, some of them will watch TV for hours and neglect play time. This is one reason why obesity is on the rise in children. We have to encourage our families to do other activities besides electronic ones and to motivate them to move. So how does one set guidelines for TV in their own home? You need to set limits. Learn to turn the TV off. Set a specific time frame for TV and then turn it off. The biggest mistake people make is leaving the TV on all the time. Allocate a certain amount of hours for TV viewing and after they have exhausted those hours, they are out of luck.

Another method to detour the TV is to give your children options. Do not just tell them go out and play, show them how fun other activities can be. The most important thing about setting boundaries is family time. While giving them options of being involved in other activities are nice, do things as a family. Going to a recreational center, having family game night or other activities, can soon in time totally take the place of the beloved television.

These days, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a television show that families can sit down and watch together. It is hard to find a good television show that is not loaded with profanity, sexually-enticing love scenes. Those who have young children want to set down and be able to watch a show without covering eyes or ears. Fortunately, there are still a few family-friendly television shows available.

“Extreme Makeover Home Edition” is a great show that families can sit down and watch together. This show is not only clean, but it also spreads a positive message of hope.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. “Extreme Makeover-Home Edition” is a show about giving people who have been down on their luck to live in the home of their dreams.

“So You Think You Can Dance” is another show that families can enjoy without worrying about the effect that it will have on their children later. This show is a dance competition that allows people to showcase their talent. Some of the best amateur dancers from around the world are featured on this show. Another reason that this is a great family show is because music and dancing are two things that everyone enjoys, regardless of their age.

TV has changed a lot in the last century, from black and white sets to rabbit ears to the new age of plasma. Whether or not you’re into technology you’ve got to admit the newest in HD and 3D TVs are pretty amazing – they really make the action come to life! If you’ve got satellite from www.direct.tv or another provider try out your new 3D set with some of these great things to watch…
Women’s World Cup - If you’re into sports at all you’ve got to get in the game with women’s soccer. 3D makes the players jump off the field and you’ll really feel the goalies’ pain when they’re diving for those rogue shots.
Breaking Bad – The fourth season of this AMC hit is about to start again and with lots of action and chase scenes it’s a great candidate for 3D TV. Be careful, though, the “tripping” scenes may be too real for comfort!
Blue’s Clues – Your kids can have just as much fun with 3D as you can and there’s no better way to get them in the action than with an animated show. Put the glasses on them and watch in amazement as they calm wayyyy down.

When you think about sitting down to watching some television, what is the first thing you think of? These days there tons of options out there for the couch potato that wants to get off the couch, but still enjoy their favorite television shows. The most obvious way is the internet. We all know that we can just hop right onto our computers and watch almost any show there is; even laptops allow us to watch television on the go. But what about a smaller device?

In this modern era, you are in luck. The whole story can be found at http://www.fitsugar.com/Television-Shows-Motivate-You-10868582 With today’s smart phones, you can watch virtually anything on the go, and at times even in high definition, too. Just as you can sit at your computer and watch your favorite shows, networks are making it increasingly easier to watch your favorite programs on the run.

Not only do networks have special mobile sites that you can go to in order to watch their shows, but some of the networks, and television show producers themselves, are pushing more and more into the app markets, with all mobile app systems. For just pennies, and sometimes free, you can keep up with your favorite shows, or even sporting events, all by just turning on your mobile phone.

Many parents only see the bad effects of television, but there are definitely many benefits of television too. They can help your children socially in ways you’d never think about, and in this article we’ll discuss how television can aid your child.

One way television can help your child is by the ability to show them other cultures. We live in an amazing time where we can experience the world in a way never before possible. By being able to learn on television about different people, different countries, and other cultures your children can learn to appreciate, respect and be understanding of other people. This is such an important social skill that everyone should have.

Another amazing benefit of television is the way it displays common aspects of our every day lives. These common aspects help your child understand the important basic concepts of imitation such as small talk, greetings, and responses to other social situations. Seeing others respond to situations can help your child understand the proper ways to communicate with someone else that may be upset or even happy.

All things in moderation can be beneficial, and these are some ways television can truly benefit your child’s life.

When the commercial break starts in most homes, so does the chorus of “I want that.” How can one head off this phenomenon without being the bad guy? These are some simple, short and fun activities to help redirect your family’s attention to each other.
The snack run can be made a group activity. One person pours the drinks while a second gets the popcorn into the microwave. A third can be getting down bowls for everyone and getting them arranged on a tray. Turn it into a time challenge, and practice it. Commercial breaks can also be turned into clean-up time, where everyone has just until the commercial ends to pick up their area, with rewards of picking the next commercial game.
TV Show Bingo is another favorite. Print out lists of items that your family can watch for in each show and use the commercial break to compare your lists. This game is great for starting conversation and also for teaching observation skills.
Everyone enjoys the “what if” game. At the start of commercials, talk about what you just watched. Ask your children what they would do in each character’s place. Use the time to teach your values. If you like what you see, keep going: Vs.
