Bring Your Family Together With These Shows

If your family loves amazing performances, try America’s Got Talent. Kids as well as adults audition, and performers include singers, dancers, magicians and acts that could be seen at a fair or circus. The audience participates by voting for their favorite act at the end of each round. The three judges praise or criticize as appropriate, and can even end an act early if it’s really terrible. It’s fun to argue afterward about whose performance was better, and to root for your favorites.

MythBusters is a funny, educational science show. Each episode features two myths and two teams who try to figure out if the myths could actually happen. Fans of the show can submit their own myths online for consideration. Each team tries to replicate the situation in which the myth is supposed to occur, often building experimental equipment in their workshop. They then field test their equipment to see if it will prove or disprove the myth. The tests are exciting to watch, often involving explosions. At the end of each episode the myths are rated either “Busted,” “Plausible,” or “Confirmed.” The show’s producers bleep out the rarely occurring strong language, and include safety warnings before the most dangerous experiments.

The Amazing Race lacks audience participation, but is still absorbing and dramatic. Eleven teams of two people each race through beautiful locations around the world, completing challenges at each location and figuring out clues to their next destination. Meanwhile other teams can interfere, forcing their competitors to complete additional tasks or delay their travel plans. Teams travel with a tiny budget of 100 per leg of the journey, but are encouraged to involve the locals in solving clues and completing tasks. This show offers families a chance to explore interesting places and cultures they might never see otherwise.Want to know more?
